How to conquer Clutter

01a3a1675785041838ebce5c93de8bb26aca3849c5As spring is just around the corner, I know many of you are thinking of the dreaded spring cleaning.  We all know it needs to be done, but many of us, myself included, do not get around to it, or entirely finish cleaning the house from top to bottom.  What makes it worse is the many things we have accumulated during the holidays, weather it be gifts from loved ones, items we bought on impulse because it was on sale etc.

Well, I have some tips you can use that I have recently found

  1. Keep things that you love. While this may seem self-explanatory, we are surrounded by so much stuff that it can be hard to distinguish what we really love, and what we have held on for ‘what if ” occasions. I found this out when I cleared away my college course work. Of course I had loved studying those subjects at the time, it doesn’t seem necessary for me to hold on to them, as I already learned what I needed to learn.
  2. Get rid of the things you don’t love.  I know it may seem like a waste, but if you are not using it or wearing it, then it is time for the item to go. I have had this problem a lot with clothes, especially when my mom thought I would grow into an outfit. I never did grow into those outfits, but kept them, “just because.”  Thankfully, I was able to use my common sense and got rid of them, which has allowed for more space in my closet for the clothes that actually fit and I love.
  3.  Visualize the life you want to live, and try to mimic that life in your home as much as possible. As you do this, you will be able to get rid of the things that don’t belong in that vision. For me, I love the ascetic appeal of Ballet, and the soft color and pretty lace. For me then, having anything that is not feminine, or elegant, would have to go. It shouldn’t be hard to visualize, as what you already own does show what you like and don’t like. For example, it is easy to tell through your clothes what you like wearing, and what clothes get somehow shoved back in the closet.

  1. I do agree with all the ideas you’ve presented in your post. They’re very convincing and will certainly work. Still, the posts are very short for beginners. Could you please extend them a bit from next time? Thanks for the post.

    1. Thanks you for your comment and suggestion. Yes I am planning on expanding this post in the near future, this post was only to scratch the surface and get people familiar with the topic.
