Book Review May Edition

Today we are going to be reviewing the book “The French Beauty Solution.” By Mathlide Thomas

This is a perfect book for those who want to know about French Culture and their beliefs and ways to beauty.

I loved reading this book, as it was really easy to read and relate to.

However what I found fascinating, in this book,  was the concept of achieving beauty was so different to the French than mainstream Americans’. That as a culture we Americans were more prone to a “Fast fix” approach to beauty, while the French view skin care as more maintenance and prevention.  As I have skin issues,  I tend to the “fast fix” approach to skin care. For say, if I have a pimple, I immediately turn to benzoyl peroxide, the main thing I used when I had mild acne as a teenager. However, this will always leave my skin dry, and then to add to matters, I would tone it with witch hazel, and go to bed without moisturizing.  So this was a good time for me to realize that skin care cannot be “fast fixed.”  As with everything, it takes time. A pimple cannot heal overnight, though it can though care look and appear smaller. Since reading this book, I have totally updated my skin care routine and now use only the gentlest cleansers and make sure to moisturizes every night.

I also liked how the book also mentioned how beauty is not just what we physically put on our faces, but it is also what we wear and how we eat.  Beauty is much more than just putting a lot of products on the face, it is how to take care of the whole body. I loved the illustration that the author gave, that beauty is not something you only have in your twenties, thirties, etc, but it is a lifetime of adapting and becoming a beautiful women. We can age gracefully, beautifully, and elegantly.

This book has a lot of simple recipes as well to help nourish the skin. So if you are looking for quality DIY skin care treatments, then look no further. I personally loved the variety of recipes, and that many of the ingredients I had around the house.

Overall, this is a great book, not only to read, but also as a reminder that  beauty is not one thing, it is a lifestyle that me must adapt of nourishing ourselves, resting ourselves, and being the best person we can possibly be.

I hope you enjoyed this book review, more will coming so stay tuned,

Have a happy Monday,

Alyssa
