Fresh Lemon Scones

As summer comes to an end, I wanted to share one last summer scone recipe before I head into fall and winter.

I made this about a week ago, and needless to say,  they were a hit with my whole family. So much so, that there was only one left the next day. I meant to take some pictures the day after, as I didn’t have time the day I made the scones, but that last scone was so picked on that I couldn’t take a proper picture.
So if you are ready for something scrumptious that will remind you of fresh summer days, then this scone recipe is for you.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour
¼ cupsugar
1 teaspoonbaking powder
1 teaspoonbaking soda
¼ teaspoonsalt
½ cupcold butter or margarine
½ cup sour milk*
1 ½ teaspoons grated lemon peel
add Additional sugar

Directions

In a medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Add milk and lemon peel, stirring just until mixed. Turn onto a floured surface; knead gently six times. Shape into a ball. On a greased baking sheet, pat dough into a circle about 1/2 in thick and 8-1/2 in. in diameter. Using a sharp knife, cut wedges in the dough, being careful not to cut all the way through. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 350 degrees F for 20-25 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
Enjoy!
